Why we dont pull information in from LinkedIn Profiles
Why we dont pull information in from LinkedIn Profiles I have a bunch of people ask me why we dont have a one-click button to pull data from LinkedIn profiles. Well, its against their user agreement, and I think its unethical, and apparently illegal. I know other websites, apps and companies scrape LinkedIn profiles. They have a for a long time. An old desktop app called LICM (LinkedIn Contact Manager), developed by someone in Europe, did it. At the time, though, the founder apparently had permission from LinkedIn to do it (written permission!). Not everyone at LinkedIn got the memo and users of LICM found they were locked out of their accounts because they had violated the user agreement. This was back in 2006 or 2007 YUCK! I have had conversations with various LinkedIn employees about having an interface. Even after they created their open API I couldnt do it. Finally I found out that LinkedIn considered JibberJobber competitive, and they wouldnt allow us to API. The bottom line is that if we do something, I want to do it legally and ethically. I dont ever want to put YOUR LinkedIn access/account in jeopardy. So, we dont have an interface, even though there are other sites that illegally scrape (and LinkedIn hasnt gone after them). You can learn more about the current topic here: LinkedIn Sues Unknown Hackers in an Attempt to Find Out Who They Are. I wish LinkedIn and JibberJobber could play nicely, but until the mindset at LinkedIn changes, I dont think that will happen. How I Turned My Passion Into a Trip to Tahiti - Classy Career Girl
How I Turned My Passion Into a Trip to Tahiti Travel is my passion. When something is my passion, I donât make a plan B for it, it is always Plan A. It takes priority, I just do it, and put all of my intention into pursuing more travel. I recently booked a conference in Hawaii, not only for networking to grow my business, but also to achieve my childhood dream of visiting Hawaii. After spending the week visiting the Polynesian Cultural Centre, Climbing the Diamond Head Crater, road tripping around Oahu, and pool hopping at Waikiki beach, the week sadly came to an end. After catching the first leg of my flight, I arrived in LAX the following morning. Upon arriving at the gate to catch my connecting flight, the Ramp Agent makes an announcement. There might be a full flight today, and those who volunteer their seat will be rewarded with $800 worth of a travel allowance.â At the time, the agent couldnât guarantee for sure that the flight will be full, but I still decided to go for it. Never previously having the luxury of time to take advantage of such an offer, I went for it to see what will become of it. Before I knew it, the boarding process began. My seat was taken and offered to standbys, and I was called up to receive my magnificent travel voucher, and to my surprise two drink vouchers! Cranberry martinis to get through a grueling flight, anyone? All sorts of ideas went through my head to be able to use the flight voucher in the future. I could take a trip to Tahiti, fly partner airlines to FINALLY reach Greenland, or use it for taking much planned trips in the coming spring. With that voucher, I can take as many as 4 trips to awesome locations, and I know how to catch unbelievable sales to wicked locations. First and foremost, I am ever thankful and blessed to be an entrepreneur. My choices have given me the freedom to manifest MORE of what my passion is. If I were still working in corporate, this would not even be an option. In fact, I might have actually LOST money trying to get a specific flight to make it to the office on time. This is one of those times where I am glad I tossed my fears aside, and went for my dream business. I went for it, had the faith, manifested travelâ¦.and BAM! It is said over and over that entrepreneurs must be passionate about their businesses, and manifest ways to help their clients MORE. In this case, my travel voucher will help me showcase more places to my audience. This reward will ultimately benefit all of whom I serve. As it is repeatedly said: âInspiration exists, opportunities exist; however, they must find you working.â Let this also be a lesson and inspiration for you to stop being fearful, and take action to make your dreams come true. That is one way I have created my own benefits package with travel as a perk! Happy Manifesting while I figure out the next impressive locale to redeem this voucher for! See you all soon!

Being Too Busy Syndrome - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Being Too Busy Syndrome - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career We all are too busy. There is no doubt about that. Thanks to internet and smart phones, everybody is available all the time. However, did you ever notice that the people who constantly mention that they are very busy are in fact the least effective ones? Being very busy is not an indicator of being effective or successful. Some people like to tell everyone around themselves how busy they are so that nobody asks them to take on another task. Also, some people like to seem very busy because only then they can feel important. If you also feel very busy or tell around that you are too busy, you probably cannot manage your time properly. Below are some helpful tips for being more effective and less busy. Donât Say Yes to Every Task: If you have more on your plate than you can actually complete, donât say yes to another task just to please your boss. This will decrease your effectiveness and success rate because you have to divide your energy between different projects instead of putting all into one and finishing it off successfully. Create Time for Your Friends and Family: Know the value of your loved ones, always create time to spend quality time with them. Not everything is about working. You should recharge yourself and refresh your mind from time to time and spending time with friends and family is perfect for that. Thus, do something other than working and call your loved ones. Prioritize: Prioritize your tasks and stop wasting time with unnecessary tasks. For example; donât constantly check your emails or social media accounts. Donât feel that you are immediately obligated to respond. Finish what you are working on first and then, start responding to emails or returning to calls. You cannot do everything at once. Do Not Let Others Distract You: Focus all of your attention on the task that you are working on and do not let your coworkers or anything else distract you until you finish that task or until your break time. If you give all your energy only into the task that you are working on, you will see that it will take you less time to complete. Get Enough Sleep and Schedule Breaks: If you didnât get enough sleep and still feel tired from the previous day, then, you wonât be able to work as efficiently as you want. Therefore, try to sleep early and get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night. Also, set yourself breaks during the day to refresh your mind and stay away from your desk. This will help you stay more driven and in the end, you will finish your tasks faster.

Things Recruiters Want but Will Never Tell You
Things Recruiters Want but Will Never Tell You The reality of recruiters is that they are tasked with finding the best job candidate for a position. Then, they put their faith and trust in the candidate. Why? They are hoping the job candidate does not become a âbad hireâ or do something to tarnish the recruiterâs reputation. It is a delicate balance between finding what people are asking for while managing personalities in the process. Therefore, there are things recruiters will never tell you to maintain that balance.Recruiters cannot start telling job candidates everything they need to know in order to get hired. It is not their job. If the job candidate knew everything it would not change the fact that the candidate may not be the right fit for the job, anyway. However, for the purposes of job searching it is helpful to know these secret things below that recruiters will never tell you, or cannot tell you. 1. They Do Not Choose Who Gets HiredRecruiters can influence decisions, but they do not choose who is hired. Hiring m anagers do the hiring. It would be a mistake to believe that recruiters will never tell hiring managers what they think of certain job candidates. As a job candidate, it is a good idea to treat recruiters as if theyâre the ones making the final decision. It is a safer bet than only treating the decision-maker with respect and kindness.2. They Know Way More About the Company Than They Lead OnRecruiters always have some type of professional relationship with hiring managers. Establishing a strong connection with a recruiter may help you find out information on the company others applying for jobs will not have. The better your relationship with a recruiter, the more likely the recruiter will be responsive to your requests for info, feedback, and advice. Always thank everyone in the hiring process, regardless of the outcome. Just never forget to thank the recruiter who helped you.3. The Salary Offered Is Not the Highest OfferWe all know the game: Ask for more than you really want. Then , negotiate to get what you want. The same game is played when offering a salary to you. Recruiters are given a range of salaries before offering a position to a candidate. And they must aim between that range.True, it is in the best interest of a recruiter to get you paid more and earn a higher commission. But they will likely start with the lowest salary offer in order to get the deal done. For this reason, as a job candidate, you must be able to negotiate your salary.Do you salary research beforehand on sites like Glassdoor? All positions have a salary cap, so be sure you do not start a salary negotiation by sounding unrealistic or uncompromising.4. The Job Youâve Applied for Is Already TakenIt is obnoxious for job candidates, but companies still post job openings for positions that are already taken. If you get an interview for a position with a recruiter, then find out the job is no longer available, do not waste your energy taking it personally. Getting out and interviewing is always good practice and it was not a reflection of anything you did.5. Their Job Is a Borderline Sales PositionRecruiters are not necessarily in business to get you hired. They are in the business of making sure you accept an offer. Therefore, they are going to sell you (the job candidate) to the hiring manager and sell the job offer to you, too. They have to sell you on the idea that the offer being made is the best one for you. Why? Recruiters will make money when job candidates accept an offer. Does this make them dishonest? No. But it does mean as the job candidate that you have to be diligent about deciding who you work with and the type of job you want.Do your research and make sure the companies you decide to work with are respected in their field and provide an honest service to job candidates.6. Your Chances Are Better Than You ThinkRecruiters will receive dozens of applications for a job. But if you are in touch with a recruiter about a job, it is a good thing. Why? Recr uiters contact fewer job candidates than most job seekers realize. If they contacted you it means you are in the running!

11 Creative Virtual Christmas Party Ideas From Real Remote Work Teams CareerMetis.com
11 Creative Virtual Christmas Party Ideas From Real Remote Work Teams 11 Remote Christmas Party Ideas Remote work flexibility is fast becoming the norm. According to Bufferâs annualâState of Remote Work 2019 Report,â 99% of respondents âsaid they would like to work remotely at least some of the time for the rest of their careers.âThis is a staggering number! But really, in this day and age, it should come as no surprise. More and more employeesvalue work flexibilityand work/life balance over other employee benefit schemes.evalAfter all, there are a lot of benefits to working from home. You neednât entertain annoying and time-consuming gossip while you wait for your coffee to brew As a self-appointed social organizer for my remote working colleagues, I was lacking ideas this year to come up with anything special. So, what does one do? You ask around to find out how other virtual and remote teams are celebrating their Christmas party this year, of course.11 Remote Christmas Party Ideas1) Angelina Ebeling, Founder CEO at acework.ioâWe will throw a virtual Christmas party with our team. Since we are distributed across many time zones, the best way to include everyone is to make it a âCoffee and Cookieâ get together. The typical alcohol-infused holiday party just isnât practical when itâs 10 am for someone.I sent cookies to everyone â" home-baked ones to the team in Europe, and mail-ordered from Milk Bar for our US colleague. In the past, Iâve sent birthday gifts, which really goes a long way when you are working on a fully distributed team. Even if itâs just flowers or a cake, it makes the relationship with a global team feel more personal. Since we are a multi-national team with different cultural and religious backgrounds, the focus doesnât lie too much on Christmas, rather on an end-of-year celebration.â2) William Taylor, CareerDevelopment Manager at MintResumeâWe have a number of remote employees âAs a digital entrepreneur, I rely heavily on a team of assistants, writers, and video editors that help create quality content. To make them feel motivated and express my gratitude for working well, I make sure to conduct a group call where we wish each other well and share messages with each other. This might be simple and small, but itâs the most sincere way to express your gratitude.â4) Pratibha Vuppuluri, Chief Blogger at She Started ItâItâs really hard to come up with one given the time difference within the team. However, what we agreed on doing is sharing our Christmas playlist and then compiling it to one file, which is available for everyone to listen to. We particularly encourage everyone to look into the list and make use of it as they do work. Sending/exchanging Holiday GIFs When the time came for the gift exchange we had everyone log online to our video chat and we went around in a circle to open gifts in front of everyone! We absolutely loved that we were able to exchange gifts while being remote. Our team loved the chance to have a traditional holiday party even though we are a mostly re mote team. We also decided to give our employees the week of Christmas off with the rule that they must report back after Christmas with one fun thing they did over their break.â11) Yours truly, Emily Uebergang, SEO Strategist at Digital DartsâAs our digital team has grown, it so happens no one team member works from the same city. Weâve had to bypass the previous yearâs idea of meeting up for a banquet in-person meal and Escape Room. While I had grand plans to create a scavenger hunt we could all participate in from our own home cities and share photos and experiences from, I suddenly realized I was in and over my head (leaving it way too late to organize). So this year instead weâre keeping it simple. Weâve opted for a live online chat where weâll share some stories from the year thatâs been, cheers over a drink of choice, and share what weâre looking forward to in the New Year. Work chat will be banned. Weâre also holding out for our special bonus gifts in the mail from the boss. He doesnât know this yet, but when he reads this he will.â

Do You Have Interview-Ready Hair
Do You Have Interview-Ready Hair Ive known a lot of men who were sensitive about their hair. Guys who didnt want to part with their long locks for the sake of an office job, men who were concerned they didnt have enough hair, and others who checked out the gray around the temples and thought about coloring it. But men rarely talk to me about their hair prior to an interview and if you think about it, thats as good a time as any to discuss the topic. So recently after reading a post over on The Cynical Girl blog about professional haircuts for men, the topic came to the forefront again. In her post, Laurie Ruettimann discusses why buzz cuts and long hair dont work in corporate America. Her post got me thinking about all the other hair styles in between the two, so I spoke to Ann Lindsay, image consultant and owner of Style of Success (and a strategic partner with Career Solvers) about men, hair, and work. Here are a few things she recommends men consider.Go for a shorter look if your hair is thinning.Men i n entertainment, architecture, PR, and fashion can have more creative and longer hairstyles. Stubble is also often an acceptable look in these industries.Men in insurance, investing, banking (anything that has to do with money) need short and tidy hair and little to no facial hair is recommended.Scrupulous tailoring of eyebrow, nose, and ear hair is a must.Has your hair ever been an issue at work? What profession are you in and how do you wear your hair? Do you think it makes a difference? Would love to hear your thoughts.
